Mrs. Suzy Wybrow

Suzy is the Founder of the Direct Instruction Hub UK providing national support to MATs, Heads, Leaders, in areas of school improvement, raising standards in KS3, and strategies to promote high standards of behaviour and providing advice that contribute to the self-evaluation in schools across the UK.
Suzy is also the Director of Direct Instruction for English & Maths for the United Learning Trust overseeing forty-five secondary schools nationally within the United Learning chain.
Suzy believes that every child, regardless their background, deserves an outstanding education and it is the responsibility of educators to ensure that this happens without blame or prejudice on the child. It was her own life experiences growing up in the Borough of Lambeth, South London, an area of both deprivation and affluence, that she had witnessed the inequalities during this time where children from poorer backgrounds started education at a disadvantage which has driven her today to be extremely passionate about closing the gaps in education for children who continue to face unequal access.
Suzy graduated with honours in 2002 and soon after, moved to the South Coast of England. Her teaching journey started at Glenmoor & Winton Academy in Bournemouth in 2010 and she later joined Magna Academy in Poole in 2012.
Suzy was introduced to Engelmann's Direction Instruction in 2017 during her time at Magna Academy and was the first teacher in Dorset to implement the reading programs with outstanding and validating outcomes. She later became a NIFDI accredited Direct Instruction teacher and trainer trained by the National Institute of Direct Instruction in Eugene, Oregon US.
Suzy is a public speaker and works closely with well-known leaders and educators from across the UK.

Mr. Kevin Surrey

Kevin is the Co-Founder of the Direct Instruction Hub UK providing national support to MATs, Heads, Leaders, in areas of school improvement and raising standards in KS3.
Kevin is also the Trust Buildings Co-Ordinator and Direct Instruction Lead for the Astrea Trust overseeing primary and secondary schools nationally within the Astrea chain.
Kevin started his teaching career in primary school education in the London Borough of Newham and went into secondary education when he moved to Dorset. He remembers how tough life was in Inner City London during the early 80's where he grew up.
It was his own schooling experience and subsequent life experiences that has driven his passion to help disadvantaged children achieve throughout his teaching career. Closing the gaps between the disadvantaged and the more advantaged children is what still drives him on and a pursuit of equality in education remains his aim.
Kevin started his Direct Instruction journey in 2017 during his time at Magna Academy and was the first teacher in Dorset to implement the numeracy programs with outstanding and validating outcomes. He later became a NIFDI accredited Direct Instruction teacher and trainer trained by the National Institute of Direct Instruction (NIFDI) in Eugene, Oregon US.

Kevin has a love of History that he enjoys reading in his own time as well as play bowls at a professional and competitive level.
Mr. Jon Owen
Direct Instruction Associate
KS3 & KS4 Maths | DI Specialist & Coach
Jon joined the Direct Instruction Hub UK in 2021. He provides expertise and information to schools interested in Direct Instruction.
Jon is also the Trust Buildings Co-Ordinator and Direct Induction Lead for the Astrea Trust overseeing primary and secondary schools nationally within the Astrea chain.
Jon started teaching mathematics in 2017 and quickly gained an association with the Direct Instruction Hub UK and the National Institute for Direct Instruction (NIFDI). Jon then went on to be trained in delivering Direct Instruction by NIFDI. Shortly afterward, Jon became instrumental in beginning a full, trust-wide rollout of the remedial mathematics Direct Instruction programme, Corrective Mathematics, across Astrea Trust.
In 2021, he presented at ResearchED Surrey alongside Kevin and Suzy about Direct Instruction and the impact it can have.
